Awarded every two years by the Maurice Allais Foundation, the Maurice Allais Prize for Economic Science aims to promote the continuation of Maurice Allais’ work by helping to guide and promote economic research in the direction he traced and followed throughout his life: applying a truly scientific approach to the analysis of economic issues and rejecting any explanatory approach based on ideological or conceptual preconceptions of any kind. Particular consideration is given to work on the general themes addressed in the work of Maurice Allais.
This prize is awarded for scientific articles or works, in French or English, submitted by candidates who can prove that they are nationals of a European state or have been resident in one of these states for the last five years.
The Maurice Allais Prize, which is worth 20,000 euros, was awarded for the seventh time in 2025.
The 2025 Maurice Allais Economics Prize award ceremony took place on May 27 at the MINES Paris – PSL “Grande Ecole”.
The Prize was awarded to Gilles Duranton, Professor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and Diego Puga, Professor at the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (CEMFI) in Madrid for their work entitled “Urban growth and its aggregate implications” published in Econometrica (2023).
